My wife and I just booked our camp site at Buffalo Chip Campground for the ralley in Sturgis this August. This will be our first time there. We’re both in our 50’s and haven’t really done alot of riding over the years. I started with a little Vespa in 1964 at 16, then went in halves with a friend on a 650 BSA in 1967. Then 2 friends both died in motorcycle crashes and I stayed off bikes for the next 22 years. Just got into other hobbies. Then in 1990, my oldest son told me that he wanted to get his motorcycle license and buy a bike. So, we both took the course and got our licenses. He bought a 450 Honda and I bought a 1988 1200 Sportster. I’ve been riding that bike ever since. I don’t log in a lot of miles a year but I ride whenever I can. My wife would ride with my at first but, she burned herslf too many times on the exhaust pipe and she didn’t feel real comfortable on the back anyway.
This year I bought a 2007 softail deluxe. She feels more comfortable on this bike. I kept the Sportster, I’m hoping that my wife decides to become a rider herself. We live in Rhode Island so I haven’t even take my bike out for the last 3 months and I had my hip replaced 6 weeks ago anyway so it might be another month or so before I get on my bike. But, we are set to go to Sturgis in August and we should be able to get a lot of riding in, here in Rhode Island, before August comes.

Tomorrow is the 2 week anniversary of my THR surgery. THR is the medical jargon for my procedure. Things are going extremely well. I was discharded from Miriam Hosipal 3 days after surgery. I went directly to St.Joseph’s Rehabilitation Center and was discharged from there after a 4 day stay. So, Ive been home almost a week and as great as everyone was at Miriam and St. Joe’s…Dorothy was right…there’s no place like home.

Hip Surgery tomorrow morning at 6am. My only concern is that, God forbid, if something happens and things don’t go as planned, that I haven’t left too many loose ends. I don’t expect anything to happen, other than what is expected, but like I said, God forbid something does happen, I want to have covered everything that is coming up during the next 2-3 weeks. I say 2-3 weeks because if something did happen, I’m sure that within 2-3 weeks between Sharon, Keith, Adam, Audrey, Jane, Dave Riley, Bill Whitty, Steve Navega, Dave Loftus, the State Retirement Department and Rich DiFillippo all of our finances should be straightened out. I don’t want to leave any of you in financial turmoil. The ride has been too wonderful to spoil now! Let’s face it, I have led a blessed life. What more could I ever ask for in life other than time. And God chooses our time, not us. So, my loved ones, I”ll see you down the road, I’m praying that God allows that road to be I95 for quite a few more years. I think that I have alot to share with all of you here on earth before it’s my time to take that road trip to the land above. God’s Speed…
